God was just a toy

And I was playing on the floor
Not wondering if there's more
If god was keeping score
I was only a boy

And in my thirteenth year
I was taught to fear
God in all his splendor
And I was forced to swear
That I would always wear
His cross upon my heart
I was only thirteen
And learned that god was fear

Then I became a man
I put god on the stand
And somehow found him wanting
And I called him to testify
I told him he had lied
That was the day he died
I was such a young man
The year I put god on trial
